FORE.DK's review
Hjarbæk Fjord is one of the best golf centres in Denmark and here the possibilities are many. There are 27 really good holes placed in three loops: 1N, 1S and 1W where 1W is the easy and quite flat one of the three. You can combine your 18 holes as you please and if you want to play all 27 you are welcome to do taht. Furthermore there is a 6 hole par 3 course. The course at Hjarbæk is not the toughest one we have visited - neither is it the easiest. A big plus is, that you always will find this course in a very good state. The clubhouse is very nice and you get a professional reception when you arrive.

The facilities for training are as close to being optimal as possible. The driving range is placed right next to 1N and 1S and is very hard to come by. The turf is good and besides the grass there is also an Astro Turf tee box with a mirror which allows you to see all your faults while you swing! The only downside to the range is that it is possible to hit a ball on the fairway of the 1S hole and that can be a little bit dangerous. Please remember to shout out FORE if you miss hit your training shot in that direction. The putting green is placed by the clubhouse terrace and it is of a very good quality, so if putting is not your strong side - well, you really can't blame this green. Go practice!! The chip shot green is right next to the putting green and is the same high quality. Here you can also train your bunker shots so in Hjarbæk there is really no excuse for not practising your golf game.

1N is the natural first tee so this is also where we began our round. You don't get an easy start here. This hole is a par 5 (489y/447m) with trees all the way along the right side and a tough rough in both sides, but hey - who said it would be easy. The second shot you hit is either a lay up or long and very risky to a narrow green protected by three bunkers. One in the front, one on the left side and one at the back of the green. This is definitely not the hole where you want to star as a hero - play safe instead and go for your par.

4N is a nice little par 3 (only 123y) which doesn't sound like much of a challenge, but in fact it is a rather difficult hole. It is due to the fact that you often play this hole in a head wind that comes from the fiord which lies close to this hole. The tee shot can be played with everything from a six or seven iron to a sand wedge depending on the wind. The green is unprotected yet surrounded by trees and the space you need to hit your ball through is not at all wide. All in all birdie is definitely within reach with a good tee shot.

1S is in our opinion one of the really fun holes to play. You can't just pick any club out of your bag for the tee shot, oh no. What you need to do is to hit your ball long, but not too long and not too short either. The best thing to do is to hit your ball approximately 220y forward and then hit your approach shot the last 180y. Of course you could pull a "John Daly" and carry the ball 273y but that is not every ones choice!! The second shot is not the easiest you could face because of the distance to the green which by the way is very narrow and protected by a bunker in the front to the right. The only positive thing to say about the approach shot is that you hit it from a fairway that is elevated about 16-22y relative to the green. If you can play this hole to your handicap there is reason to be proud.

3S is the hardest hole on this loop and we easily understand this (from backtee the hole is 643y and probably the longest par 5 in Denmark!!) From the daily tees the hole is "only" 534y and it stretches out and makes a narrow hole with a couple of fairway bunkers on the way to the green. These bunkers are placed really well strategically which means that your drive and the lay up shot must be played with caution. This hole must really be played with the inside of your head. The most important shot on the hole is the approach and it can easily be 130-165y of length. The approach is to a narrow green protected by three bunkers. Furthermore the green is slightly undulated so a par or a bogey is a fine score on this hole.

5S is a rather funny short hole (294 y) with a dogleg to the left. It is very crucial that you place your drive in the right place on this hole, otherwise you will have a blind approach shot towards the green which is placed in the woods.

3W is a par 4 (338y) and there is not much fuss here. You don't have to hit your driver from the tee because of the water hazard approximately 237y from the tee in the left side of the fairway. Rather use a long iron or a fairway wood. The approach shot is short but tricky. Water on the left and two bunkers on the right of the green. A par or even a birdie is almost a must on this hole, well almost.

5V is a short par three (119 yards) that is quite easy but still demands precision from the tee. The green is only protected by one bunker on the left so this is a very good chance for par or birdie.

9V is a par 4 (369 yards) with a dogleg to the left. You hit your drive towards a bunker which is placed is the right side of the dogleg so the best shot you can hit here is with a draw. The approach shot is like hitting through a funnel as the hole gets more and more narrow as you are closing in on the green which is protected by a bunker short of this. A par is a good way to finish your round.

When you have walked around all day long and you are quite exhausted it is really nice that the restaurant has a fine kitchen that performs as well as the golf course. The prices is on the comfortably side so there is no excuse not to visit the club house afterwards. The pro shop is one of the best with a nice variety of golf equipment.

All in all we have to say that there is not much to complain about in Hjarbæk Fjord Golf Club, so just get your golf gear dragged out to your car and make a visit. This place is not only about golf but it also gives you a great experience in the beautiful nature that surrounds the 27 holes.
